What is the Summer Solstice? The summer solstice marks the midpoint of the year and the peak of the sun’s light before the gradual shortening of daylight. It is the astronomical first day of summer for the Northern Hemisphere, marking the longest daylight hours of the year. This year, the summer solstice falls on June 20th, and Yarnalia wants to celebrate the light and freedom of summer with fun yarns and projects!
FREE Summer Project… Crochet Fern Leaf
While some might believe that knitting and crocheting are reserved for the cooler months, we at Yarnalia are here to tell you that summer is simply a time to shift to lighter-weight yarns and smaller projects.
Our designer Gabriela Rafaile, created this delicate little fern leaf pattern that is available for FREE on the blog! Gabriela crocheted this novelty piece using our sport-weight yarn, Marvel.
Marvel is a blend of Superwash Merino, acrylic, and nylon, and projects crafted of this ultra-durable fiber have an incredibly soft feel. Crocheted in our earthy Matcha Tea colorway, the natural soft green color and the quality of the yarn yield a fantastic little item, perfect for summer. The stitch definition is incredible, emulating the central stem, leaf stalk veins, and the intricate tiny details of a live fern.
Why a Fern Leaf?
Various people across the globe celebrate the summer solstice with a variety of different traditions and festivals. Numerous indigenous communities believe that the fern signifies fresh starts and the emergence of new life. In some cultures, the fern leaf is considered the symbol of the summer solstice. Ferns often symbolize lush greenery and flourishing growth, embodying the abundance and vitality celebrated during warmer months.
