ALL ABOUT YARN FIBERS
There are a whole lot of yarns out there, and sometimes the choices can be overwhelming. Would a chunky merino wool yarn be the best choice for your sweater project, or would a chunky alpaca yarn work better? How many yarn shops and online retailers will you need to browse through before you find that perfectly thick wool yarn for your chunky hat? And if you’re shopping online, how do you know that the description of the alpaca yarn you purchased will match what you get when your order arrives?
We’d like to make things simpler for you. Our philosophy is that you should be spending less time shopping for yarn and more time knitting and crocheting with it. Sounds obvious, right? Think of it like taking a capsule wardrobe approach to building your stash: We offer yarn that’s exactly what you need for every pattern, every time—all in one place. That place? Yarnalia.
Yarnalia has sourced the best fibers available to create a collection of foundational yarns that you can use for any pattern. Our range includes selections in every weight from laceweight baby alpaca yarn, to classic 4-ply worsted wool, to soft, squeezable bulky wool yarn and everything in between. Our fibers were carefully selected and constructed to bring out the quintessential qualities for each yarn weight. All you have to do is pick out the one you need for your pattern.
Here’s an overview of what you will find in the Yarnalia family of fibers.
Merino is known for pairing next-to-skin softness with incredible durability. Made from a fine grade of wool, our merino and merino-blend yarns showcase the versatility of this amazing fiber. Wooly is our classic worsted-spun, plied yarn in a worsted weight. Soft and plush with a sleek sheen, Wooly is a superwash merino that will create crisp stitchwork to last for years.
Softy is our bulky wool yarn that’s just barely spun to give it a wool roving look. Softy is a non-superwash merino that gently glows under a beautiful woolly halo. Merino wool also lends a unique velvety feel to our acrylic-blend yarns, chunky-weight Fluffy and DK-weight Wonder, and a lustrous finish to our merino/acrylic/nylon sportweight yarn, Marvel.
Superwash wool fibers go through a process that removes their scales, making them smoother, softer, and shinier. The resulting yarns have all the warmth and loft of wool, along with an itch-free, easy-care finish! Soft and lightweight, with beautiful drape, Skylark is our fingering-weight yarn that adapts to a wide range of stitch gauges.
Its one-ply construction highlights its natural shine. Stormy is our classic sock yarn in a balanced fingering weight. Blended with a touch of nylon, its superwash wool base produces rich, saturated space-dyed shades. Added touches of acrylic and nylon enhance the wonderful qualities of superwash wool in Marvel, our soft and durable sport weight that gives stitch patterns a beautiful finish.
Any stylist will tell you that investment pieces are essential to building a complete wardrobe. The same principle applies to yarn: No collection is complete without a little luxury! That’s why we have sourced the finest baby alpaca fiber for our alpaca yarns. Joy is our silky-soft pearl of a yarn that works just as well for exquisite lace patterns as it does for heirloom baby knits.
Though it may look delicate, it has inherent strength thanks to alpaca fiber’s long staple. Cozy is an unbelievably soft light-worsted yarn in 100% baby alpaca. Its carefully plied construction makes the most of the natural warmth, breathability and drape found in alpaca yarn.
While we cherish our beautiful heirloom pieces, we also want to knit projects that we can wear every day—and toss in the laundry! Our blended yarns feature just the right proportions of superwash wool and high-grade acrylic and nylon to create yarns that feel squishy-soft and woolly (never slippery or crispy) and hold up to everything that life sends your way.
Fluffy is our chunky wool and acrylic blend that has the look of a chunky merino wool yarn with the added lightness and ease of acrylic. Along with its DK-weight sister yarn, Wonder, it comes in a range of heathery muted shades. Sock-weight Stormy has unparalleled strength thanks to its nylon content. And Marvel, with its itch-free, hardwearing blend of superwash merino, acrylic and nylon, is the perfect yarn for gift knits.
